Runecast was founded in 2014 by a team of virtualization professionals with a vision: help IT system admins get and maintain control of their environments. Today, organizations around the world rely on the patented Runecast Analyzer for predictive, actionable intelligence across increasingly complex hybrid-cloud IT environments.

The original product was built with a tech stack that let the team launch fast — but as the platform matured, the jQuery frontend became a ceiling on the customer experience. Runecast needed Vue.js expertise to rebuild the portal without freezing roadmap delivery, and reached out to us to lead the migration alongside their core team.

How We Built It

The Process

A full big-bang rewrite would have been months of risk with no shipping. We agreed on an iterative, page-by-page migration that landed Vue.js work in production from week one — replacing the jQuery portal module by module while the rest of the app kept running.

Phase 2

Layout & Foundational Pages

We rebuilt the application shell and the simpler dashboard pages in Vue.js first, then loaded the new Vue views inside the existing portal via iframes. As each page reached parity it replaced its jQuery predecessor, so the production app gradually transformed without a single high-risk cutover.

Phase 1

Discovery & Migration Strategy

Together with Runecast we mapped every screen in the existing jQuery portal, ranked them by complexity, and agreed on an incremental rollout: migrate one page at a time, ship it behind an iframe, validate in production, then move to the next. This avoided the risk of a long-lived rewrite branch and meant value reached customers every sprint.

Phase 3

Feature Enhancement & Scale

With the foundation in place we layered in the heavier modules — large data grids with AgGrid, interactive analytics with AmCharts, Vuex for state, and a TailwindCSS design system to keep the UI consistent. Beyond replacing what existed we partnered with the Runecast team to genuinely improve the experience for enterprise admins.

Scope & Deliverables

What We Did

  • Vue.js Frontend Migration
  • Enterprise Console UI
  • Data Grids & Charts
  • Tailwind Design System

Frontend Engineering Partnership

We embedded as the frontend specialists Runecast needed, owning the rewrite of the Analyzer portal from jQuery to a modern Vue.js stack. Across 3+ years and 4,500+ hours we operated as an extension of their core team — pairing with their virtualization experts so domain logic stayed in-house while we shipped the UI.

Beyond the migration itself, we kept the platform evolving: new modules for enterprise admins, refinements to existing flows based on customer feedback, and a Tailwind-based design system that keeps the 40+ unique pages of the Enterprise Console visually and behaviorally consistent.

The Results

What started as a jQuery-to-Vue rewrite became a long-running partnership focused on continuously raising the Analyzer's customer experience. The joint effort of the Runecast and BinarCode teams earned a five-star Capterra rating from customer reviews. In 2020, Runecast was named a Gartner Cool Vendor and won Computing's SME awards for Best Place to Work in Digital and Cloud Security Product of the Year — recognition built on top of the modernized portal we shipped together.
