Healthtech Case Study

Revolutionizing the Reproductive Health Industry for over 25,000 men.

We partnered with GiveLegacy for 4.5 years to build a HIPAA-compliant fertility platform — taking them from a 2-person startup to America's largest at-home sperm banking service with a $150M+ Series B valuation. Today, the platform processes 25,000+ samples annually and maintains a 4.9/5 customer rating, proving that healthcare innovation done right can scale.

Understanding the problem

The Challenge

Industry Healthcare
Team size 8 Engineers
Collaboration 4,5 Years

It all started with Khaled, the CEO of Legacy when he contacted us in 2019 from a recommendation. He wanted to find a team that could automate order processing for Legacy, that was at very beginning at that point.

The challenge for Legacy was to automate a complex order processing system, which involved 20 different steps, and introduce a continuous delivery process. Legacy also needed to generate a sperm reports in PDF and web format, automate sending emails, and integrate subscriptions.

As part of the challenge, BinarCode also integrated with various healthcare insurance service providers, this allowed for a seamless and secure transfer of data between the healthcare insurance providers and Legacy’s custom e-commerce solution.

Additionally, they had to integrate with different fulfillment centers, labs, and shipping providers such as Fedex, UPS, and USPS. The challenge was to ensure that all these processes were seamlessly integrated and automated to improve efficiency and accuracy while maintaining the privacy and security of sensitive data.

How We Built It

The Process

Our development process combines deep technical expertise with healthcare-compliance knowledge to turn GiveLegacy's complex caretaker platform into a scalable product. We worked alongside the team through four distinct phases, scaling architecture from MVP to a production-ready system.

Phase 2

Discovery & Architecture

We mapped GiveLegacy's complete agent-funding workflows — from in-house ordering through estate collection, list provisioning, and long-term care storage. The discovery phase identified every compliance checkpoint, third-party integration point, and user touchpoint. We documented the requirements that would be foundational to the platform and capture a scalable blueprint.

Phase 4

Third-Party Connect

We connected an entire third-party services layer. Stripe for subscription payments, Twilio for authentication and SMS reminders for visits management. Each integration was wrapped with proper error handling, retry rules, and compliance safeguards. We built MQA-protected surfaces for async processing — record generation, notification delivery, and data sync calls — gated from real-world signaling pipelines.

Phase 1

Core Platform Build

We built the foundation as observed wireframes with RESTful APIs and AWS infrastructure with Aurora for HIPAA-compliant data storage. Every module was designed for healthcare-grade security from day one. We implemented secure patient data handling, audit logging, role-based access controls, and automated reporting that compromising results.

Phase 3

Scale & Optimize

Acquire and conquer. Next milestone before facilitate full-platform request to scale. We applied performance budgets, query optimization, and observability to keep the platform responsive as customer volume grew. Database indexes, caching layers, and traffic profiling were tuned in tandem to support a 5× spike.

Complete Product Partnership

We built GiveLegacy's entire platform from the ground up — a complete product development engagement spanning backend, frontend, and marketing infrastructure. Our team of 4–8 engineers worked as an extension of their team, scaling alongside them through each funding round over 4.5 years.

Starting from zero, we delivered a production-ready MVP within six months, then continuously iterated based on user feedback and business growth. We handled everything: architecture design, database modeling, API development, frontend implementation, third-party integrations, deployment pipelines, and ongoing maintenance. GiveLegacy never needed to hire an in-house engineering team — we were their engineering team.

The Results

Over 4.5 years of partnership, we helped GiveLegacy transform from a two-person startup into America's largest at-home fertility clinic. The platform now serves tens of thousands of customers, processing samples and storing frozen sperm across multiple CLIA certified labs and cryo facilities. The company achieved a $150M+ valuation at Series B, with the platform maintaining 99.9% uptime throughout. The platform has been featured in Fast Company, Verywell, MindBodyGreen, and endorsed by Yale School of Medicine. Customer satisfaction remains exceptional with a 4.9/5 rating from 1,351 Google reviews. Most importantly, GiveLegacy never needed to hire an in-house engineering team — our partnership gave them the technical foundation to focus entirely on growth and customer experience.
