Growee started as an internal BinarCode tool — we needed a way to handle leave, evaluations and the day-to-day paperwork of running a software company, and nothing on the market fit. ERP-style suites were too generalist, and the few HR products we evaluated started at €8–10 per user per month.
A bigger blocker was local context: none of the off-the-shelf tools were designed around Romanian labour legislation, especially around leave entitlements, accruals and reporting. That made every commercial option a partial solution at best.
Because Growee was self-funded and built alongside client work, resource constraints were real. Early progress was slow — small windows of focus on weekends and between projects — and the team had to be ruthless about scope so the product stayed coherent rather than half-finished in five directions.
The bar we set: a secure, multi-tenant platform that a Romanian organisation could actually run their HR, time-tracking and invoicing on, without paying enterprise prices and without compromising on data security.
Growee evolved across three distinct phases over 3+ years — from an internal experiment to a hardened, pentested platform. Each phase rebalanced what to prioritise: depth vs. breadth, speed vs. architecture, internal use vs. external launch.
Phase 2
Year three was a careful rebuild. We re-architected the platform for multi-tenancy and scale, expanded the surface to include time tracking, projects, invoicing, documents and reporting, and aimed for a soft launch in summer 2023. Most of this work happened on weekends and between client projects, which forced sharper trade-offs than we'd usually make.

For roughly two years we ran Growee as a purely internal tool — focused on leave management and employee evaluations, the two things hurting us most operationally. Building it on ourselves gave us a tight feedback loop and an honest read on what was useful versus what we thought would be useful.

A dedicated, enthusiastic team formed around Growee — moving it out of side-project mode and into a roadmap with weekly cadence. In January 2024 the application went through extensive penetration testing by Cyber Threat Defence (CTD) and earned its security certification, validating the platform for organisations handling real employee data.

We own every layer of Growee — backend, frontend, infrastructure, design and product. The platform covers the day-to-day operations of running a company: clients and projects, time logging, leave requests with Romanian-legislation-aware rules, invoicing, employee evaluations, document management, NDAs, detailed reporting and tenant-level configuration.
Because Growee handles sensitive employee and financial data, security has been a first-class concern since the rebuild. In January 2024 we put the application through extensive penetration testing with Cyber Threat Defence and obtained certification — giving customers concrete assurance that the platform is built and operated to a real security standard, not just a marketing one.
A pragmatic, full-stack Laravel + Vue.js setup we know cold — chosen for developer velocity and long-term maintainability rather than novelty. Multi-tenancy and audit trails are baked in at the data layer.

Three years of consistent investment, a CTD security certification, and a dedicated team have turned what started as an internal experiment into a real product — one we use ourselves every day and continue to invest in.
